The way I see it, regret is always backwards looking. At the time decisions are made based on the facts, resources and logic at that time.
So, what I find useful is to actually review the decision and perhaps pull out those key factors that lead to the decision and see whether you can re-establish the positive aspects of the decision and improve on what has become negative.
It made sense then, what's changed to make it a regret?
Moving forward, I see it useful to asses the most important things in life and basically only focus on these. Since most of us have limited time and resources, spending time regretting over doing new things that will bring you joy, happiness, success etc seems more logical.
Otherwise, I see regret as a big time waster and emotional rollercoaster. Doesn't mean I don't have regrets, I can only work on changing the future to minimize them.
